Western Ghats region of India is well known for its scenic beauty and being closer to the Arabian sea the area receives plenty if rainfall. However while I was trekking in the western ghats region I was surprised to see a cactus plant.

This plant is a native to the desert region and I was quite surprised to see its presence in the heavy rainfall region of Western Ghats. When I investigated the reasons for the same I found that although the area receives plenty of Rainfall, the terrain is rocky and the water does not get accumulated in the soil. Hence the area becomes rain deficient. This explains the logic behind the presence of this plant in this region.
