Orchha is a comparatively lesser known historical town located at a distance of 16 km from the city of Jhansi. However the town is home to many of the historical buildings like Orchha fort, Jahangir palace, Raja Ram Temple and Chaturbhuj temple which are historically very significant and signify the essence of composite Rajput and Mughal Architecture.

Orchha Fort, located in the town of Orchha in Madhya Pradesh is a magnificent historical complex that reflects the grandeur of the Bundela dynasty. This fort is known for its unique blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles, its rich history, and its well-preserved palaces and temples.

Visiting Orchha Fort

1. Timings and Entry Fee

  • Timings: The fort complex is generally open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Entry Fee: There is a nominal entry fee for Indian and foreign tourists, with an additional charge for photography and videography. The entry fee for Indians is Rs 50 per person and Rs 500 per person for foreigners. Additional Rs 400 is charged for carrying a camera.

2. Guided Tours

  • Guided tours are available and highly recommended to understand the historical significance and architectural details of the various structures within the fort complex. On our visit to the fort we took a guided tour and the guide charged Rs 750. However the guided tour is still recommended for understanding the history and significance of the each of the part of the large building complex.

3. Light and Sound Show

  • Orchha Fort hosts a light and sound show in the evening, narrating the history of Orchha and the Bundela dynasty. The show is an excellent way to conclude your visit to the fort.

How to Reach Orchha Fort

1. By Air

  • Nearest Airport: Gwalior Airport, about 120 kilometers from Orchha. Khajuraho Airport is another option, located about 170 kilometers away.

2. By Train

  • Nearest Railway Station: Jhansi Junction, about 16 kilometers from Orchha. From Jhansi, you can take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach the fort.

3. By Road

  • Orchha is well-connected by road to major cities like Jhansi, Gwalior, and Khajuraho. You can reach Orchha by private car, taxi, or bus.

Tips for Visitors
